Historic mining

Standing on historical ground

Mining in Schneeberg has left significant traces. Not only in the landscape, which still tells in a unique way about centuries of mining. You can see prospections, pits, dumps, inspector houses, mine entrances and other historical witnesses.

Still today, people aware of tradition and home preserve customs and usages of their ancestors. Miner companionships hold parades and meetings at certain days and with pride they carry their traditions into the future. A central theme is the so – called "Bergstreittag" (Miners Strike Day).

Not only the landscape, also the intellectual and cultural life was influenced by mining. You will find a wide range of such examples in popular art and folklore music. Carving, bobbin lace work , painting and wood working thrive on this subject as well.
