Schneeberg belongs to the county of Aue-Schwarzenberg in the free state of Saxony. Geographically the town is located in the western Erzgebirge.
In the late 15th century, silver mining made Schneeberg popular. More than 500 years of mining influenced the town´s history and development. Nowadays about 16.833 people live here.
