Glück Auf!

Schneeberg belongs to the county of Aue-Schwarzenberg in the free state of Saxony. Geographically the town is located in the western Erzgebirge.

In the late 15th century, silver mining made Schneeberg popular. More than 500 years of mining influenced the town´s history and development. Nowadays about 16.833 people live here.

Schneeberg has several surnames, such as the "baroque town of the Erzgebirge", the "christmas town of the Erzgebirge" or simply the "silver heart of Saxony". The origin of all these notions is connected with mining.

Schneeberg attracts thousands of visitors each year because of it 2 highlights, the so-called Bergstreittag (22. July) and the so-called Lichtelfest which takes place annually on the 2 nd advent.

Schneeberg is a town of charming contraries. History and future, modernism and past time, depth and width are presented here. Also the university of Schneeberg contributes to this concept.
