Water and open air...

...you can enjoy during a visit to Schneeberg in one of the most beautiful places of the Erzgebirge mountains, the "Filzteich" lake.It was created from 1483 to 1485 as a reservoir to supply the mechanical mining constructions. A wide distribution system made sure that all mines and stamping-mills which hauled and dressed oar received enough water at every season. The Filzteich has a surface of 23 ha and provides also a nudist beach.

The water was taken from the "Filzbach", a brook that springs from a peat area. Peat (germ. Torf) is in the Erzgebirge also called "Filz", from where the word "Filzteich" derives. Because of ist origin, the water contains a high share of fen substances that have a proven healing effect. For this reason, the water looks somehow dim and has a slight brown tinge.

Surfing is not allowed, but various boats can be lended out.

A water – chute with a length of 84 m guarantees endless fun.

Also in the district Lindenau a storage-lake has been created, the so-called "Forstteich".

A great camping site is situated there, providing space for caravans as well. When bathing in the open air is not possible, the oldest indoor swimming-pool of West Saxony – the Geitner Bath in Schneeberg – invites you.
