The baroque styled guesthouse “Sun” was built in 1708. During the great fire in 1719 the building burnt down and later on it was rebuilt completely. In former times it was a guesthouse with hotel rooms, club rooms and a ballroom. In the former GDR the “Sun” was the cultural house of the town. Since the middle of the eighties the ballroom couldn’t be used anymore.
The town councils decided to reconstruct the cultural center “Golden Sun” in 1990. Between 1991 and 1993 the old building was renovated.
The old ballroom was knocked down in 1991, in 1992 the construction work for the hall building began. On the 21th July in 1994 the topping-out ceremony was celebrated and on 16th June in 1995 the cermonial reopening of the “Golden Sun” took place.
In the basement there is a 4-trams-bowling alley which can be rent for private. A restaurant with several areas was constructed in the ground floor of the old building. In the new building lies the little hall and in the first floor one hall which can be used for variable possibilities. The gallery is located in the first floor. The library has its domicile in the old building. There are many rooms which can be used by the members of the clubs. Among other things the classes of the lacemaker school takes place here.
